Neurodiversity-affirming psychological support

At sámh psychology, we take a neurodiversity-affirming approach, recognising and valuing the many different ways people think, learn and experience the world. We have years of experience working with neurodivergent individuals across the lifespan, which has helped us build a thoughtful and compassionate understanding of the strengths and challenges that can come with this. We offer a range of tailored services, including ADHD assessments, post-diagnostic support, coaching, and wider neurodiversity-affirming psychological support, all shaped around the individual. You can find more information about what we offer below.

Comprehensive ADHD assessment

Our assessments are guided by NICE (the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, which provides evidence-based guidelines for health and care in the UK) recommendations and include a full clinical and psychosocial assessment, a detailed developmental and psychiatric history, and structured input from someone who knew you in childhood where possible, alongside standardised questionnaires.

The process typically involves completing questionnaires in advance, followed by an online 2-hour assessment to explore your history and current experiences in depth. This is then followed by a feedback session where we discuss the outcome, go through a written report, and consider any questions you may have. We also provide tailored recommendations and signpost further support where necessary.

The aim of the assessment is not only diagnostic clarity, but also to provide a meaningful understanding of your experiences and clear next steps for support. More information on the process can be found on our blog article here.

ADHD post-diagnostic support

ADHD post-diagnostic support provides space to make sense of your diagnosis and what it means for your life going forward. This can include personalised recommendations based on your context, whether you are in education, university, or the workplace, and practical strategies to support day-to-day functioning. Alongside this, we can explore the emotional impact of a diagnosis, including identity, self-understanding, and the experience of a late diagnosis, which can bring a mix of relief, grief, frustration and reflection. The work is collaborative and paced around your needs, with a focus on helping you integrate your diagnosis in a way that feels meaningful and supportive.

ADHD Coaching

ADHD coaching focuses on supporting you with the practical, day-to-day challenges that can come with ADHD. This might include difficulties with organisation, time management, starting or finishing tasks, and managing focus and energy. Together, we work to understand how your ADHD shows up for you and develop personalised strategies that feel realistic and sustainable. Coaching is collaborative and goal-focused, helping you make meaningful changes in your daily life, while building on your strengths. Where helpful, this can sit alongside therapeutic support to address the emotional aspects of your experience.

Neuro-affirming psychological support

We support people with neurodivergent profiles to better understand themselves and care for their psychological wellbeing in a way that feels realistic and sustainable. This can include exploring experiences of difference, the impact on relationships, self-esteem, and emotion regulation, as well as making sense of identity and the impact of a late diagnosis.

We also support people experiencing burnout and overwhelm, exploring the impact of neurodiversity at school / university, work or on career development, and finding approaches that better align with how you function best.

We offer a space to reflect on both strengths and challenges, helping you build self-understanding and develop strategies that work for you. Where helpful, this can be combined with ADHD coaching to support practical, meaningful changes in day-to-day life.
